Day 3

The main side effects I notice are a bit of constipation and slight nausea (TMI!).  I slept pretty well last night for an old guy.  My voice is raspy which a friend tells me is a side effect.  Of course, the prednisone is making me jittery. Two more days of that.

On a good note, the pump is gone.  They also gave me a shot of Neulasta to pump the white blood cell count back up.  It was not a stick-on thing like the link shows.  Just one shot in the arm.  Since the cancer drugs kill rapidly dividing cells (a nice video about how Neulasta works in the link), they also affect the progenitor cells for blood cell production (including white cells, platelets, and red cells).  In addition an injection of heparin to prevent clotting.  Heparin has an interesting history.

Your biology lesson on blood cell production is below.

  1. Thank you for sharing your journey and your knowledge. My dad had a similar chemo set up as what you are receiving. He always said the days after the injection to increase blood cell production made him feel fatigued. I’m curious as to your reaction to same.

    1. I felt very fatigued last night so I am not surprised. Will see how it goes today.
