Day 0

I thought I would try to blog about the cancer experience. I am calling this day 0 because it is the day before the first treatment. I began to have bad pain in my right knee about 6-8 months ago. The doctors couldn't determine what the problem was. Finally an MRI of the right knee revealed lesions in the right tibia, femur and fibula. The initial suggested diagnosis was multiple myleloma. I was sent to Dallas for a biospy which indicated a B cell lymphoma. The results of that biopsy, blood tests and a PET-CT scan were confusing as to whether it was the aggressive or less aggressive form. A second biopsy gave the diagnosis of the agressive form--in particular Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. Dr. Levy in Dallas prescribed the R+CHOP treatment. Before this could begin I had to have an echocardiogram to determine if the heart could stand the treatment. Then they needed to install a mediport to infuse the drugs. Getting this all arranged took a bit of time but now everything in ready to go for treatment. The treatment will be done locally under the supervision of Dr. Engstrom.
Mine looks like this:
So today I still have hair.
It will probably fall out but that would be the least of the side effects. You can read about them in the R+CHOP link above. I hope that writing this little blog will help someone who might be going through this. The odds for a "cure" look pretty good. I do get depressed a bit at times but trying my best to look on the bright side.
